Growing-up in turtlenecks was borderline torturous. Wearing one always resulted in fits of itchiness accompanied by a constant sensation of slow but steady strangulation. (In short, not so comfy.) Then there was the question of color and texture, which I invariably got wrong (only adding insult to injury). Thankfully much has changed since then… For starters, the use of fine wool-blends and delicate cashmere knits means finding that perfectly snug, itch-free everyday turtleneck is 100% realistic (just make sure to avoid ‘chunky’ anything, viscose and bright colors, opting instead for streamlined knits in ivory, camel and dark tones). As for actually wearing one, I’ve been layering mine below various overcoats, leather bombers and blazers. Cosy!
