Plaid and I haven’t always been pals. I’d typically consider it loud and a touch gimmicky – reserved for Holiday parties or apple-picking (fun of course, if not entirely practical). Then four tartan-filled years in Scotland happened, subsequently teaching me one thing: Wear plaid! It can be so good, especially for fall by way of socks, scarves or a coat. As for actually wearing it, I chose to pair my plaid jacket over a neutral cable knit (this sweater to be exact) and an ever-trusty pair of fitted jeans, plus boots. The goal, as far as checkers go, is to keep everything else relatively simple (a black roll-neck or henley would work too). Point being, plaid doesn’t like sharing the spotlight – don’t make it.
