Contrary to what your St Barths-bound friends may say, cold weather has its perks. And while Gingerbread Latte’s paired with crisp walks in Central Park, followed by cosy afternoons spent by the fire are lovely, cocooning oneself in warm layers of cashmere and cotton takes the cake. You see layering, when done right, is everything you need to survive even the most brutal of polar vortexes. (Trust me, I speak from experience.)
Take the hoodie for instance. A staple in even the most basic of wardrobes, it excels where the likes of the crew and turtleneck wane – namely, overhead coverage. Moreover, and according to everyone (but mostly my mother), keeping one’s head warm is of utmost importance. Consequentially I’ve tried the trapper, sampled the snood, and of-course worn various caps and beanies. But the result wasn’t always comme il faut. Then Kanye’s effortless Parisian layered look hit my Tumblr feed, detailing how the simple grey hoodie should be integrated into a modern, layered look. Babooshka chic? Perhaps. But this take is decidedly sleeker and, when done right, will compliment any tailored ensemble. Sunspel‘s grey loopback hoodie, with its classic fit and silver hardware details, is the perfect (read: only) option. Layered underneath a classic camel overcoat and paired with a simple knitted beanie, it’s all I’ll be wearing this winter.
