Fall Fragrance: Aesop Marrakech Intense

Fall has officially arrived, which invariably means the hunt for a new and noteworthy fragrance must commence. Traditionally I’d scour various department stores for something woody and distinct because, and as Tom Ford put it, fragrance is ‘the main event.’ But this year (like shooting fish in a barrel) the hunt proved straightforward and, like all good things, uncomplicated.

Enter Aesop’s Marrakech Intense, an evocative oriental blend that fuses warm, sophisticated notes with a delicate balance of floral top and base notes. The fragrance (created in partnership with perfumer Barnabé Fillion) builds on Aesop‘s first Marrakech fragrance, and continues to draw inspiration from the convivial hospitality and traditions inherent to Morroccan culture. A medley of woody aromas, vivid spices (native to the Marrakech souks) and the surrounding desert landscape also serve as sources of inspiration.

For Fillion it was important that Aesop’s signature scent evolved to mark a departure from the original Marrakech fragrance. “Egyptian Jasmine absolute imbues the fragrance with sensuality and links the spice elements. The Bergamot’s brilliance is extended while ensuring it blends well with the Neroli top note and the effect of the Jasmine petals. Together, these three components secure the top notes’ freshness.” And as for me, a light mist of Marrakech Intense immediately induced visions of YSL at home at Villa Oasis – could I ask for more?
